Melanie has suffered the losses of both of her parents, though it was the death of her father that hit her the hardest. She spent several years operating a ghost hunting YouTube channel and had more than her fair few of strange encounters. She eventually lost her team, respect from her fellow peers, and became isolated and alone in her pursuit to keep her channel afloat. This led her to become employed at The Magnus Institute; her time there was over 2 years full of fear, terror, murder, and more supernatural happenings and artefacts than you could shake a stick at. She was tied to the Institute and its Head, Elias, and continued to suffer betrayals by her teammates along the way. With her trust broken, she became desperate to escape and even blinded herself just to manage it. Since then, she cut all ties with the Institute and its people. Until the Watcher's Crown dawned and the world Changed and she was forced into an Apocalyptic survivor.

Melanie is unwittingly caught outside when The Hunt descends upon Mathias; Bucky is busy trying to bust out of the boarding house. Luckily, he makes enough noise to lead her there, away from the creature stalking her, playing with its food, it manages to miss taking her, and Bucky saves her by giving her shelter at the boarding house.
*Note: She lost 2 less points than the others involved in The Hunt due to her blindness, and not seeing even the barest, jumbled glimpse of the creature.
